Asclepias fascicularis (Narrowleaf Milkweed)

Coast, Foothill, Mountain, Desert/Transition

Asclepias fascicularis, commonly known as Narrowleaf Milkweed, is a herbaceous perennial plant native to western North America. It is characterized by slender, lance-shaped leaves arranged in whorls along the stem. During late spring to summer, the plant produces clusters of small, pale pink/cream to light green flowers that attract various pollinators, including bees and butterflies. Following the flowering period, elongated, narrow seed pods develop, containing numerous seeds with silky attachments for wind dispersal. Narrowleaf Milkweed is vital for supporting pollinator populations, especially monarch butterflies, as it serves as a host plant for their caterpillars. It is an ideal addition to wildlife gardens, butterfly habitats, or native plant landscapes, contributing to biodiversity and conservation efforts.
