Populus fremontii, commonly called Fremont Cottonwood, is a large deciduous tree native to western North America. It features broad, triangular leaves with serrated edges and grayish bark. In spring, it produces clusters of greenish-yellow catkins that give way to cotton-like seeds. Fremont Cottonwood is often found along watercourses or in riparian areas.
